Miss Cat
Teresa Caterisano, Miss Cat, was born and raised in Santiago de Chile before she moved to the United States with her whole family to attend the University of Texas. Her whole life, Miss Cat has been surrounded by children, animals and nature. When she moved to Colorado with her husband and three children, she was able to realize the dream of living on a farm.
Miss Cat has been teaching and working with children for the last two decades. Family is important to Teresa and she was able to spend a lot of time with her own three children. She returned to work in the Head Start program in Texas and then in the Special Education program at her local public elementary school. It was here that Teresa deepened her respect for ALL the ways people learn. Upon moving to Colorado, Miss Cat became a committed volunteer at the local Waldorf Charter School until they recognized her skills and offered her a job teaching Handwork to 1st through 8th grades. Teresa loved many aspects of Waldorf Education including healthy rhythms, outdoor play, connection to nature, and hands-on learning.
It was during her time at the Waldorf School, that Miss Cat started collecting animals. Dogs were the first to come. Not just her dogs, but friends and neighbors started boarding dogs at the farm. Teresa always warned people, “Dogs and children never want to leave my house!” Dogs were quickly followed by horses, goats, ponies, chickens and bunnies. Mostly rescued animals. All loved and good with kids.
Now Miss Cat is combining two of her favorite things in life by teaching young people how to love and respect animals and nature and feel that they are connected to and an important part of the world.
